What the Experts Say....

While researching I've come across many different opinions from authors, police, detectives and others that were involved in this case. I've come up with quotes from experts that have the same conclusion that i do; the parents killed Jonbenet.
1. "The detective, Steve Thomas, who resigned from the police department in mid-1998, writes that he concluded that Mrs. Ramsey strangled her daughter in a panic on Christmas night 1996 after accidentally causing a serious wound to the little girl's head. He also contends that the girl's father, John Ramsey, after realizing what had happened, 'chose to protect his wife' rather then help the authorites determine what had happened." (from ProQuest)
2. Police Chief Mark Beckner said that the Ramseys still remain "under an umbrella of suspicion."
3."Despite her obvious distress, her husband did not go to her." Steve Thomas and Don Davis
4. "It has been in my experience that in situations where a child has been injured or killed, the parents cling to each other, do poice considered the physical distance between John and Patsy Ramsey to be remarkable uner the stressful conditions." Steve Thomas and Don Davis
5. "...the Ramsey's were trying to manage the news." John Douglas and Mark Olshaker

Other Arguments

As I've stated in my last blog, my first subtopic is motive. To know how I feel about motive you'll have to read my previous blog. However, if i was to counter it and state how i feel the parents would respond i would probably state that they loved their daughter and no parent would wish any harm on their children. Also, to what I said about publicity they can fight back with they're very wealthy people and they are already known to alot of people. These are just some of the refutes I would make back. As I read and researched I found other the other subtopics I'm going to use. For my second subtopic I am going to focus on the Access the parents had. For one, they were the ones that knew the house the best; they lived in it! Also, they would know all the hiding spaces, what floors creak and what floors didn't. They would be able to stage the scene of the crime just they way they liked. They could come back and argue that even though they knew the house best the intruder must of been someone who also knew the house. And just they can argue that the open window in the basement could of been an access point for the intruder to come right in without anyone hearing. My third subtopic is going to be the Physical Evidence that was found. Not only on Jonbenet but also around the house. The more research I do the more I find how many errors were made at the crime scene. And in my belief I believe that the errors were not mistakes. The Ramsey's can come back and say that they were so distraught that they weren't thinking clearly by touching everything and inviting all of their friends over for comfort. Lastly, from interviews in books and watching interview clips and a movie I am going to make my last subtopic personal interviews. Personal interviews with the parents, the investigators, police and others involved with the investigation. From these interviews there will always be two sides; the side that believes the parents are guilty and they side that defends the parents.

Subtopic 1- Motive

My first subtopic had to do with motive. There is enough cercumstancial evidence that concludes that one or both of her paretns were the killers of Jonbenet. For one, it is a known fact that Patsy and Jonbenet had an argument the night before her death. Though it is not exactly known what this fight was about (some specualte it was about her constant bed wetting and others say it was over her Christmas Day outfit) we do know there was a fight. One theory is that in this fight Patsy had just snapped from being overwhelemed with the holiday season, her upcoming birthday and other means of stress and accidentlaly killed her. Then John (protecting his wife and son Burke) helped her cover it up making it look like a kidnap. They had more then enough time to cover up what they needed to cover up and make everything perfect to stage the "perfect kidnap". In my opinion, and from what i've researched there were no indication of intrusion, and isnt it perculiar that the night that someone kidnapped and murdered Jonbenet in her own home the Ramseys gave their dog to a nearby neighbor because they were going away the next day. Also, the ransom note that was left in the house was written in the house with paper that was from the house. If it wasn't her parents, this inturder was obviously very comfortbale with they layout of the house, the people in the house and knowledge of where everything was. Even if it wasn't any family members the inturder had to spend a lot of time with the kidnap and killing becuase this was not a quick and easy murder. Going back to the topic of motive, another motive was fame. The Ramsey's are very wealthy people. And Patsy was used to being in the limelight. She used to perform in pagents and even tried to be in Miss America. This is why she exploited Jonbenet the way she did. She wanted her daughter to be even bigger and better then she was and she really didnt care if Jonbenet wanted to perform in the pagents and contests or not. A sick theory is that when she killed off her daughter, that Jonbenet would really be more famous then she could ever of been while she was alive. Once she was dead she would grace the covers of every newspaper and magazine in the country and the world, and everyone would know who she was and who her family was. The Ramsey's would be a household name. And from this murder the Ramsey's were able to expliot themeselves even more by writing their own book on what they feel happened to their daughter in their book called The Death of Innocence. In a sick theory her murder could've been all for publicity.

Pro/Con on the Jonbenet Case

After doing much research on this case I have come up with pros and cons that will help me determine my side on which I will argue. On the pro side (pro being that her parent/s committed the crime) there is motive, reasonable theories and cause for her one or both of her parents to kill Jonbenet. The Boulder police believe that one theory could be that Patsey (the mother) got into a fight with Jonbenet over the outfit that she was to wear on Christmas Day and in a fit she strangled her and then bludgeoned her over the head with an object. When the father John found out, helped his wife cover the crime and make it seem like a kidnap. Also they never really cooperated with the police. Although many people want to believe that this is what really happened, there are just too many holes and not enough evidence to pinpoint the crime to them. On the con side, the DNA evidence that was found at the crime wasn't matched to any of the Ramsey's DNA. Even though the body and house was tampered with before it could have a proper crime scene investigation. Even though this case has been opened for over a decade now and no one has been linked to the case, I believe that one or both of her parents were involved with her death and although there were no DNA samples doesn't necessarily mean that they should rule out the parents. So the side I am going to take is the pro side in which her parents were the killers of their own daughter.

The Death of Jonbenet Ramsey: Post 1

The topic I have chosen to research for my research paper is the tragic death of Jonbenet Ramsey. At first I chose to research it because of all the media publicity that surrounded it. I was intrigued by the story and case and wanted to know more about it so I figured that this would be a perfect opportunity to do just that. Jonbenet was a six-year old beauty pageant girl. She grew up in a wealthy family and from the time she could walk her mother Patsey trained her to be a little princess. She had won many times in pageants and contests and was the pride and joy of her parents. On Christmas Day 1996 very early in the morning someone broke into the Ramsey home, kidnapped Jonbenet and sexually assaulted her in her own house. She was found hours later by her father dead in a corner of a closet in her basement. Many people speculate that it was her own parents who did it, other say there is enough evidence to discharge them of all suspicions. Whoever did kill Jonbenet, be it one or both parents, or an outside party is still out there. Will justice ever be served? In my research paper I am hoping to gather enough information so i can intellectually make a decision on whether or not her parent/s should be responsible for the killing of their own daughter.
