The Death of Jonbenet Ramsey: Post 1
The topic I have chosen to research for my research paper is the tragic death of Jonbenet Ramsey. At first I chose to research it because of all the media publicity that surrounded it. I was intrigued by the story and case and wanted to know more about it so I figured that this would be a perfect opportunity to do just that. Jonbenet was a six-year old beauty pageant girl. She grew up in a wealthy family and from the time she could walk her mother Patsey trained her to be a little princess. She had won many times in pageants and contests and was the pride and joy of her parents. On Christmas Day 1996 very early in the morning someone broke into the Ramsey home, kidnapped Jonbenet and sexually assaulted her in her own house. She was found hours later by her father dead in a corner of a closet in her basement. Many people speculate that it was her own parents who did it, other say there is enough evidence to discharge them of all suspicions. Whoever did kill Jonbenet, be it one or both parents, or an outside party is still out there. Will justice ever be served? In my research paper I am hoping to gather enough information so i can intellectually make a decision on whether or not her parent/s should be responsible for the killing of their own daughter.

You chose a very interesting and controversial topic, one that will definitely keep my interest throughout these collaborative blogs. This case is intriguing in that it has been an open case for over a decade. I am really interested in learning about all of the evidence that was left at the crime scene. Gathering all of this factual information (things as specific as what objects were in the room, what objects had the unknown DNA), will make it very easy for you to establish a full pro-con chart. Something else I would like to know is the allibi (spelling?) of the parents. Were they sleeping when the suspected killer entered the house? Did they say they weren't home? and if they weren't home, why did they leave their six year old daughter alone? Also... in regards to the third idea of an outside killer - does anyone have any idea who this outside killer might be? Are there any suspects aside from the parents in the case?
ReplyDeleteThis topic will definitly make a good research paper because it gained so much publicity. It seems like you already have a good start on the details and I would really try and focus on the information released by the police because it will be the most in depth and accurate. One question that I am really interested in is was there any DNA found on Jonbenet at all? Could it be a possibility that it was a hired job by the parents? Also, was she definitly sexually assaulted? Personally, I find it ironic that the mother was so obsessed with having fame and she recieved it through the death of her daughter. I think that the pro side you are taking fits the topic well. Another source of information could be the records of the court case, if there was one already. Finding recaps of the defendants and prosecuters could be very helpful.
